ADMISSIONS GUIDELINES & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The Academy of St. Matthias the Apostle follows the Archdiocese of Washington and State of Maryland guidelines for students entering Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten.

To support appropriate placement and enrollment decisions, the Academy uses a combination of screening assessments, academic records, and family interviews.

  • Children must:

    • Be three (3) years old by September 1

    • Be fully toilet trained

  • Children must:

    • Be four (4) years old by September 1

    • Be fully toilet trained

  • Children must:

    • Be five (5) years old by September 1

Admission to Kindergarten is based on:

    • Results from a Kindergarten Readiness Screening

    • A successful family/principal interview

  • Children who turn five (5) years old by October 15 may be considered for early entrance on a limited, case-by-case basis.

Families interested in early entrance must contact the school office by January of the school year prior to enrollment.

Early entrance is granted to a very small number of students, as most academically advanced students thrive within our differentiated classrooms while remaining with their peer group to support healthy social development.

  • Applicants for Grades 1–8 must submit:

    • Most recent report cards

    • Standardized test scores

    • Any applicable educational plans or evaluations (IEP, 504 Plan, ICAP, or private assessments)

Permanent records from the student’s previous school are required, including:

    • Academic records

    • Medical and immunization forms

Please note that students may not attend class until all required records are received and financial accounts are current.

  • All newly admitted students are accepted on a trial basis to ensure a successful academic and social transition.

If concerns arise during this period that cannot be adequately addressed within the school’s resources, a family may be asked to reconsider enrollment.

  • Non-Catholic students whose families support the mission, philosophy, and expectations of Catholic education at the Academy of St. Matthias the Apostle are considered for admission on a space-available basis.

  • Registration for new families relocating into the area may be accepted throughout the school year, based on space availability.
